WHAT

This is a weekly F2F silent sitting meditation for folks who want to sit together regularly and amplify each other's practice.

Please RSVP to attend.

WHO

This is primarily for experienced (or self-directed beginning) practitioners who are committed to showing up on a regular basis for peer-to-peer hosted (not guided) practice.

All silent practice traditions welcome as long as you're committed to sitting silently for the duration of each practice.

No experience required, but please come prepared to guide your own practice. There will be a brief 15-minute period at the end of each session for people to connect, ask questions, and share with each other as inspired, but no formal instruction offered.

I will have a few throw pillows, bolsters, and chairs available for those who may need these, but please bring what you need. The room temperature is generally somewhere between 68-70°, so plan accordingly for your comfort.

WHEN

Weekly Fridays, 7:45am-8:45am, beginning January 26th. The group will stay open to new members through February 23, at which time we will likely become a closed group.

7:55-8:30am - Bells ring (7:55am). Begin practice. Sit. Bells ring (8:30am). End practice.

What to Expect

EASY-TO-PRACTICE TECHNIQUES

Partner massage doesn't have to be complicated, but it does have to be good for you and your partner. You will learn the basic elements of skillful touch and easy-to-practice techniques for giving each other a great massage.

GOOD BODY MECHANICS

Delivering massages can actually be hard on the body if you don't know how to use your body correctly to deliver a massage. I'll offer practical tips and techniques to help you avoid hurting yourself (or your partner) while delivering a massage, so it can be an enjoyable experience for both of you.

Also, please note that this experience involves sitting, kneeling, and lying on the (padded) floor, and while I can offer some modifications, please come prepared to take good care of yourself given these conditions.

SAFE SPACE

Safe space has become somewhat politicized in today's world, but feeling safe is essential for giving and receiving a good massage. We will create the inner and outer safety required for giving and receiving positive touch.

Please come prepared to welcome and appreciate all shapes, shades, and affinities.

SMALL GROUP

This particular class will be held at my home on Bainbridge Island. Space is limited to 4 duos, so RSVP ASAP if you and your partner want to attend.

Also, if you can't attend this one, but want to be first to know about the next one, get in touch, and I will add you to the waitlist.

More info:

What to Wear

My playshops are PG-rated for consenting adults.

You won’t be stripping or swinging. These massages are given and received fully clothed while lying on the floor (well, really on a cushy mat on the floor), and you massage the partner you brought.

Wear loose, comfy clothing that you doesn't restrict your movement and keeps your private bits private. You may also want to wear layers to be able to adjust your body's temperature as needed.

What you do in the privacy of your own space is up to you, but the course is designed to teach the basic elements of massage in a way that easily translates to a more intimate setting without requiring anyone to get (semi)naked with strangers.

What to Bring

No expensive massage table required. Please bring a pillow and a comforter or thick blanket to this class (bring one per person). Also, if you happen to have a camping pad, Thai massage or yoga mat, bring that too.

Most of us don't deliver personal massages on professional massage tables at home, and beds or couches are usually not supportive enough for good massage, so I teach you how to give a great massage on the floor.

Obviously, a floor can be too hard and cold for many of us, so we will take our cues from Asian-style professional massage, and modify the floor to meet our needs with some padding.

If you happen to have a Thai floor mat, these are ideal, and I will use one to demonstrate during our playshop. The class floor will be layered with cushioned exercise mats for your comfort and convenience during our practice.

However, I will also show you how to layer comforters, pillows, and/or yoga mats to work on each other at home without the added benefit of professional mats.

RSVP

This RSVP is for you and your "plus one." Although our pre-massage warmup involves a bit of low-contact group interaction, you are expected to bring a partner who you will work with exclusively during class.

Please note that the course fee is for 2 participants, and non-refundable.

If I can offer any additional information or assistance regarding this playshop or any other offering, please feel free to contact me directly

Also, if you'd like to set up private sessions for you and your partner (or a group of close friends) to learn massage techniques to practice at home (clothed or draped), this can be arranged by appointment.

Ferry Folk: check schedules.

Integrity Dynamics 2018

Integrity Dynamics is a practical approach for navigating the uncertainty, complexity, and urgency of our times with greater integrity.

This course will shift your experience of yourself, others, and the world in profound and unpredictable ways.

It will challenge some assumptions and perturb the status quo, often revealing previously unrecognized perspectives and patterns of experience—blindspots, tender places, and sticking points.

Becoming more conscious of our experience in this way can be deeply unsettling, as we begin to surface the habitual beliefs, values, and assumptions about who we are and the nature of our reality that often influence our decisions and actions without our necessarily realizing it.

Yet, the process can also be immensely constructive as we liberate ourselves from habitual responses and outdated modes of being that no longer serve us or the greater world we inhabit, making space for new ways of being and doing that help us have a better experience of being human together.

It is not for everyone, especially not the faint-hearted or feeble-minded.

This course is for those of you who:

  • sense that there is a deep shift needed in the way we live and work together
  • yearn for goodness to prevail in the world
  • want to navigate the gap between what is and what could be with fewer bumps and bruises
  • seek to reorient yourself to a wholeness that can hold broken(hearted)ness
  • understand that the simplicity on the other side of complexity is worth the effort, and that the roar on the other side of silence must be heard for us to truly live
  • want to be welcome just as you are, freak(in’ genius) flag and all
  • realize that sacred cows and white elephants have a lot to teach us
  • need a refuge that enlivens rather than dulls the senses
  • are tired of sitting alone in the dark worrying about the state of your sanity, your relationship, your household, your business/organization, your country, the world
  • would like to be better equipped to address the complexity, uncertainty, and urgency of our times

It is for intrepid entrepreneurs, artists, activists, positive deviants, quiet revolutionaries, institutional innovators, global nomads, change makers, world shakers, troubadours, provocateurs, cape-less crusaders, and daring do-gooders committed to a world propelled by the wisdom of discerning knowledge, the compassion of genuine connection, and the power of embodied commitment.

Radical Resilience: Self-care Skills for Tumultuous Times

Caring for myself is not self-indulgence, it is an act of self-preservation, and that is an act of political warfare.
— Audre Lorde

Into each life a little rain must fall, but sometimes, there are the perfect storms that rip away the foundations of our reality and leave our life in shambles. The world feels unbearably overwhelming and bewildering. We are no long sure of who we are, what to do, or what will be.

During such times of turmoil, it's essential to take especially good care of ourselves. Although it sometimes seems otherwise, genuine self-care isn't self-indulgence. It's an increasingly necessary competence for navigating an uncertain, chaotic, and complex world.

Persistently sacrificing our own well-being for seemingly more pressing issues often results in shortchanging relationships, situations, and causes that need us to be at our best. After all, depleted, harried, sleep-deprived hot messes are rarely effective.

We need self-care habits that help us stay centered, grounded, and attuned to our inherent wisdom, compassion, and power. Especially if we intend to serve something greater than ourselves, we need self-care that leads to radical resilience.

Radical resilience is what allows us to stand amidst the rubble with dignity and compassion. It is what allows us to embrace the new beginning at the end of the world with strength that we didn’t know we had.

If you think that you could benefit from some intensive self-care, please join me for a micro-retreat designed to soothe, inspire, and build your Radical Resilience. In this 4-hour retreat combining personal reflection, group discussion, and guided exercises, you will:

  • Reflect on the state of your current self-care.
  • Explore 5 vital self-care practices for greater physical, emotional, and mental well-being.
  • Commune with an intimate circle of imperfectly perfect human beings.
  • Draft a personal Radical Resilience plan.

YOU’RE INVITED. RSVP. SPACE IS LIMITED TO 10 PARTICIPANTS.
Bainbridge Island, WA, 1-4pm(PST), $25/person

For more information, please get in touch. Also, private group retreats (seven person minimum) may be scheduled on alternative dates/times, depending on availability.

Essential Integrity: Spring 2017

ARE YOU READY TO EXPERIENCE YOUR MOST LUMINOUS SELF—THE PERSON THAT YOU ALWAYS, ALREADY ARE, BUT SOMETIMES FORGET TO BE—THE YOU AT THE HEART OF YOUR BEING WHO IS POSITIVELY WISE, COMPASSIONATE, AND POWERFUL?

Despite a desire to feel wholly content, centered, and alive, our lives are often fraught with habitual patterns of fragmentation that significantly undermine our well-being. Sometimes, we need to retreat from the constant distractions and coming attractions of our day to day life to reconnect with the deeper aspects of our being and becoming.
